Atlanta College of Art

Introduction:

Located in Georgia, the Southeastern part of United States, Atlanta College of Art (ACA) is a non profit college of visual art. The College was established in the year of 1905 and was the original founding member of Atlanta's Woodruff Arts Center. The Atlanta College of Art was formed as a result of the merger with the High Museum of Arts, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Alliance Theater. The merger of ACA and the Savannah College was formally approved in August 2005 and the two Institutes after the merger became operational in a combined form at the Atlanta location. Though the merger was initially contested by the students and teachers of Atlanta College of Art, they later on agreed on the fact that the merger actually played a positive role in strengthening the Institution in every possible ways both academically and otherwise. Thus took shape one of the premier Institutes of Art and Design in United States. Some of the renowned Alumni of Atlanta College of Art are Radcliffe Bailey, Ty Pennington, Roe Ethridge and Kara Walker etc. Georgia Artists Registry houses a collection of images and data about approximately six hundred Georgia Artists. Atlanta College of Art with the help of Georgia Council for the Arts, City of Atlanta's Office of Cultural Affairs and Fulton County Arts Council housed the above mentioned Georgia Artists Registry and also looked after the administration of the registry.

Courses offered in Atlanta College of Art are in the fields of drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, digital art, video and graphic design. The greater Atlanta Community is benefited by the programs offered by Atlanta College of Art which is enabled by the Georgia Artists Registry, ACA Gallery shows and community education classes for adults etc. The school offers bachelors of Fine Arts degrees in twelve specialized categories which are drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, communication design, electronics arts, sculpture etc.
