Blackburn College

Introduction:

Blackburn College was founded in 1837. The campus is situated in Carlinville, Illinois, United States. Blackburn College is a four year coeducational private liberal arts college. The college is one of the seven work colleges in United States. The college was built with the aim to provide higher education to students with good academic records but low financial means. So, low cost has always been a priority. As such the college offers education at very low cost. The college offers students manage work programs. This enhances the leadership quality of the students. All resident students are required to work. Each of the students is given tuition discounts for the hours they work. The college has very impressive athletic teams. The work program brings out the leadership qualities in the students and also encourages community involvement. Most of the students work about 10 hours per week, ie, 160 hour per semester. The students work in partnership with faculty and stuff to help in the daily operations of the college. This enhances their sense of belonging, feelings for community and individual responsibility. This combination of academic preparation and practical work experience prepares the students for their career, life and further studies. The college has 643 undergraduate students of which 98% are full time. The college has 53 faculty members of which 72% hold terminal degrees. The student teacher ratio is 16:1. The college has a wonderful library consisting of 65,500 titles, 85 serial subscriptions, and 12,196 audiovisual materials. The college has 60 computers for general students use. The students are involved in various activities like clubs, sports etc.

    The college offers Bachelor of Arts degree to the students. The college offers programs in music tracks, theater tracks, religious studies, philosophy, etc.

    Admission Procedures:

    All students opting for admission in Blackburn College will have to submit a personal statement or essay, high school transcripts and a minimum of 2.3 GPA. Some of the students may need to provide letter of recommendation and take an interview. The admission process is rolling.

    Accommodation facilities:

    Blackburn College offers residential facilities in four divisions, coeducational housing, men only, women only and freshmen housing. The freshmen housing is guaranteed. The residential complexes are well furnished.
