Colorado School of Mines


Colorado School of Mines was elected as one of the top graduate schools by the U.S. World news report. The pubic university started in 1874 initially offered courses in metallurgy, mining, geology and gradually progressed to subjects that help to understand the earth for sustainable development. Colorado School of Mines has eventually turned to be a research university is applied science and engineering related to the Earth. With a student resource of over 4,000 the institute maintains a high standard for admission and 14:1 student to teacher ratio and a size of an undergraduate class is restricted to 33. This premier science and engineering university, popularly called as The Mines, has over 13 departments ranging from chemical engineering, geology, petroleum, physics, mathematical and computer science to name a few.   • Nuclear Engineering - A New Graduate Degree Program: focusses on operations and reactor designs.
  • Master of International Political Economy of Resources - A New Graduate Degree Program- to build analytical skills in management strategies and resource development and understanding the issues affecting the resource industry.
  • SmartGeo- this interdisciplinary engineering and science graduate program prepares students to take up leadership positions in the field of intelligent geosystems.

    Admission Procedures at The Mines:

    Freshmen, international students and transfer students can apply to the Mines either through paper application that costs $45 or online. Official transcripts and test scores are needed, while letters of recommendation or essays are only needed in special cases. Other than GPA scores, ACT , SAT and school rank admission procedures also emphasize on extra curricular activities. Knowledge of English, algebra, geometry, social science and history at high school level would be needed to seek admission. The Mines Financial Assistance Program also provides scholarship and grants to its students if eligible.

    Accommodation facilities:

    The Mines allow housing facility to first year students. Separate apartment for married and single students and coed apartments are also available.
