Cornell College

Introduction:

Established in the year of 1853 and originally known as the Iowa Conference Seminary, Cornell College earned its present official name in the year of 1857, when it was named after William Wesley Cornell, a devout Methodist. Cornell College became the first Iowa College to grant women the same privileges as the men. Over years Cornell College grew to become one of the leading independent, co-educational, liberal arts colleges and distinguished itself as a visionary leader in providing academic excellence to its students. Cornell College is affiliated to the United Methodist Church and is dedicated to fostering moral and intellectual growth among its students. Nestled on a sylvan, 129 acre hilltop in Mount Vernon, Iowa, the Cornell College campus was the first to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cornell College employs highly accomplished scholars to mold its students and maintains a student/faculty ratio of 11:1 so that the students get proper individual attention and also get the opportunity to closely work with the faculty members on various course related projects and research works.
