Hartford Hospital's School of Allied Health

Introduction:

Hartford Hospital's School of Allied Health aims to provide graduate students the knowledge and skill to excel in the field of health care. Academic and clinical training programs started at Hartford's since 1930'. The various streams offered at the Hartford Hospital's School of Allied Health range from medical technologist, surgical technologist, respiratory therapist, radiographer, radiation therapist to phlebotomist. The institute ensures personal attention to its students with an enriching educational experience. The main advantage for students at the School of Allied Health is the access to the clinical facilities and excellent training by practicing professionals.

Course Details:

The programs offered at the Hartford Hospital's School of Allied Health include:

Surgical Technology Program:

  • a student can take the national certification exam Association of Surgical Technologists after taking this program. The course also renders an Associates Degree.

    Medical Technologist

  • the four year program renders a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. It prepares the student to take up the national certification exam ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or NCA (National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel).

    Radiographer:

  • the certificate of radiography is given to a student who successfully completes the two year hospital based program. Radiographers are eligible to receive the A.R.R.T. Program.

    Respiratory Therapy Program:

  • imparts the education and skill set to treat patients with lung disorders; its treatment, prevention and rehabilitation.

    Phlebotomy Program:

  • grooms a student to handle the complexities of lab testing. This program is offered for 15 weeks twice a year at the hospital. The course also provides practical training to be a phlebotomists.

    Radiation Therapist:

  • this two year certificate program trains a student to become eligible for certification to the ARRT in radiation therapy technology.

    Admission Procedures:

    The Hartford Hospital's School of Allied Health follows an open admission policy. Application form and high school or college transcripts and interview with the admission representative is necessary. Each of the programs offered have specific requirements for admission.

    Accommodation facilities:

    Many students prefer to live in the dormitories close to the hospital. The dormitories are conveniently located from the classroom, libraries and labs.
