Itawamba Community College is an extension of Itawamba County Agricultural High School set up in 1920. In 1948 the school boards of Itawamba, Monroe and Lee in Mississippi proposed the formation of a freshman college offering 2 year study programs. Accordingly, first year academic session started in 1948-49 and sophomore sessions from 1949-50 onwards. Subsequently ICC Mississippi set up two campuses in Fulton and Tupelo.
Mississippi Itawamba Community College is in accreditation with the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for awarding Associate degrees. In addition, ICC Mississippi has separate accreditation for its different disciplines. The Nursing Degrees are accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and Mississippi Board of Institutions of Higher Learning. The study programs of Occupational Health Therapist are in accreditation with Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education. The Radiology, Health Information Technology, and Surgical Technology departments have separate accreditations with Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education, and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

ICC Mississippi admissions for the technical, academic, and vocational courses are open to students having a high school diploma or General Equivalence Diploma (GED). Applicants less then 23 years of age are required to submit ACT Assessment results. There are separate pre-requisites for non-accredited high school graduates, foreign students, dual enrollment candidates, and special students.
