Northern Baptist Theological Seminary


The Northern Baptist Theological Seminary was established in 1913 by the congregation of Second Baptist Church of Chicago. The institute offers non degree and degree programs in Christian studies. During the 1960s the institute moved into its Lombard campus where it currently operates. Campuses are also located in Elgin, Rockford and Lawndale was where the institute operated earlier. Graduates from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary have served in over thirty nations across the globe. The institute is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The institute is commonly known as the Northern Seminary or simply Northern. Northern is a melting pot of various faiths and Protestant denominations like Methodist, Pentecostal, Episcopal, and Presbyterian to name a few. The diverse student community of Northern includes students of African, American, Asian and Hispanic origin. The Northern Baptist Theological Seminary boasts of a Baptist heritage and is completely dedicated to its commitments towards the Scripture, the Gospel, leadership, the mission and the community.

    Admission Procedures:

    Online applications can be made at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary to seek admission. Transcripts of previous academic achievements, an autobiographical statement, three reference letters, a letter from a church and submission of non refundable application fee has to be rendered to seek admission for Master degree programs at the Northern. TOEFL scores are important if English is not the first language of the applicant. Three years of experience with a ministry is needed to apply for admission at the doctoral level program. For graduate certificate programs along with the application form and application fee a reference letter from a church or Pastor coupled with an autobiographical statement and official transcripts are needed.

    Accommodation facilities at Northern Seminary

    The Northern Baptist Theological Seminary offers on campus housing facility to students at the Lombard campus. Residence facility includes apartments with one to three bedrooms meant for both married and unmarried students. Telephone, television, utilities and parking facility is provided to resident students who opt for on campus housing. Off-campus housing is also available along surrounding areas.
