Yale-New Haven Hospital Dietetic Internship


The Yale-New Haven Hospital Dietetic Internship is a program for graduate students who seek an intensive program in food and nutrition in Connecticut. Internships are offered in two ways. One is the clinical emphasis dietetic internship and the other is the combined program conferring a masters degree in the same subject at the University of New Haven,graduate school. The internship program was started by Dr Doris Johnson in 1958 and has gone from strength to strength since then. The students undergo rigorous practical training to make themselves competent in the practical world and meeting all the standards of the ADA Competency Statements.

Course Details:

This internship at the Connecticut facility is generally of 50 week duration. It begins in September and consists of rotations of one to eight weeks length. Some of the courses covered during the rotations are:

  • Neurology
  • Transplant
  • Cardiology
  • Critical care
  • Maternity
  • Surgery
  • Psychiatry
  • Pediatrics
  • Oncology
  • Medicine

    There are also management rotations which emphasize in the developing of labor relations and conduct such vital administrative and management functions such as:

  • Conduct audits
  • Conduct financial analyses
  • Purchasing and inventory and others.

    Apart from this, rotations may also include electives like:

  • Private Practice
  • Dialysis
  • Rehabilitation
  • Marketing/Sales
  • Public health and others

    Admission Procedures:

    The middle of February is usually the deadline for applications. Registration can be done online or can be mailed to D&D Digital. Apart from the application and the $50 registration fee, 3 recommendations from previous professors,supervisors in the ADA recommendation forms are required. A personal essay answering specific questions like the reasons for choosing this specific school and discipline and personal assessment of achievements and strengths also needs to be submitted. Applicants will also need to enclose transcripts and acceptable GRE score record along with the application. Details for mailing the package is available online. The application scenario is competitive since the internship program is associated with Yale.

    Accommodation Facilities:

    There are no housing facilities available through the Yale-New Haven Hospital Dietetic Internship program at the moment. However students may approach the Yale authorities or New Haven hospital authorities for assistance in finding a place nearby.
