Young Harris College was established in 1886 by Artemas Lester as McTyeire Institute. Later in 1895, this Georgia College was renamed as Young Harris College in honor of its patron Young L.G. Harris. Nestled amidst the rustic beauty of Young Harris, GA, Young Harris College features United Methodist nature which is one of the significant aspects of this private, not-for-profit higher learning institution. Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Young Harris College, GA awards its students with associate and baccalaureate degrees.

Young Harris College does not offer open admission policy. Along with the completed admission form, the students must submit an application fee consisting of thirty dollars regular application fee, thirty dollars out-of-state application fee. Application could also be submitted online. At Young Harris College, transfer students are not ignored. Accommodation facilities are available both on and off campus. At Young Harris College campus now housing facilities are available for 531 of its 622 (full-time) students. It is a must for the freshmen students to live on campus.
