Established in the year of 1934 as William J. Porter University, Jacksonville University was actually a two-year college. Later in 1935 it was renamed as Jacksonville Junior College. This U.S higher learning institution has adopted its present name Jacksonville University in 1956. This is a private, independent, coeducational institution serve more than 2,500 students who are from forty-six states and more than fifty countries. The average class size at JU is 17 students, and most classes are comprised of less than 30 students. As far as academic excellence is concerned, it is beyond any doubt. Jacksonville University does not maintain open admission policy. All the applications are evaluated by The Admissions Committee. Freshman applicants must submit scores from either the SAT or ACT. Along with the completed application, the applicant must produce essays, and at least one letter of recommendation. Transfer students must have a minimum 2.0 college GPA.
Jacksonville University offers accommodation facilities to more than 1,000 students. Accommodations include traditional residence halls as well as apartments with kitchenettes.
